The present study focussed on exploring the effect of using copper sulphate as an activator and sodium isobutyl xanthate (SIBX) as a collector on froth stability in Platinum Group Mineral (PGM) operations. This was done on two PGM containing ores namely Merensky and UG2 (Upper Group 2) ores from the Bushveld Complex of South Africa.
Using a titration method, the copper content of the powder was determined to be %, which corresponds to % grade copper sulfate pentahydrate . Similar result was also obtained in copper phosphate. 4. Conclusion. In the present work, a chemical process was developed to produce copper sulfate pentahydrate from the malachite ore.
The core products of KGHM are electrolytic copper cathodes with minimum % of copper content. The company processes ore to obtain concentrate and metallic copper in the form of wire rod, CuOFE and CuAg wire, round billets and granules.
The process for electrorefining copper is typical of those carried out in aqueous solution. The electrolyte is copper sulfate ( molar) and sulfuric acid (2 molar) and the way in which the purification of the copper occurs can be seen by considering the metals likely to be found. as impurities :
Inside the furnace, copper sulphide ore (raw ore or concentrate after beneficiation), react s with the oxygen, and become copper matte (Cu 2 S FeS, precious metal) which settle down to smelter hearth bottom, slag (nonmetal, Ca, Mg and Si) which is on the top, and SO 2 in the offgas.

Copper is lower in the reactivity series of metals and would be easier to extract from its ore. Sulfide ores of copper can be reduced with silica SiO2 and roasted at about 1200oC.
How to Dispose of Copper Sulfate. By John Brennan. Copper sulfate pentahydrate is a blue compound that forms striking blue crystals and dissolves readily in water. It's often used in agriculture, especially as a pesticide, soil additive and feed additive. It's also used in the manufacture of other copper compounds and in electroplating baths.
Copper can be extracted from its ore by heating it with carbon. Impure copper is purified by electrolysis in which the anode is impure copper, the cathode is pure copper, and the electrolyte is copper sulphate solution. An alloy is a mixture of two elements, one of which is a metal.
Thallium Recovered from processing copper, lead and zinc ores. Thorium Recovered primarily from monazite. Tin Primary ore is cassiterite. Titanium Usually produced from placer deposits, the ore minerals are rutile, ilmenite, and leucoxene. Tungsten Primary ore minerals are .
Three different stages are involved when extracting copper from nonsulphide ores. 1. Over a very long time and on a vast scale, the reaction of the ore with a dilute acid (such as dilute sulphuric acid) produces an extremely dilute copper sulphate by solvent extraction. 2. .
Jun 04, 2013· Copper can enter the body through the skin. If your home has copper plumbing pipes, there is a chance that your drinking water may include a high level of copper. Many lakes and streams are treated with copper to help prevent overgrowth of algae. If you live near a copper smelting plant,...
When zinc and copper sulphate react in the aqueous state, a simple displacement reaction will take place in which the zinc will displace the copper from the copper sulphate to form zinc colour of the solution will go from blue to colourless due to the change in the cation of the compound.
Copper Sulphate Crystallisation Plants An alternative processing route ore that provides competitive advantage a to other conventional mineral processing is proposedtechnologies.
The ore is treated with dilute sulphuric acid. This trickles slowly through the ore dissolving copper to form copper sulphate. The copper is recovered by electrolytic refining. Advantages of this process are: much less energy is use than in traditional mining no waste gases are given off
A copper ore is a mixture of copper minerals and other materials in the rock called gangue, from which it is economically viable to extract the metal. A typical copper ore contains between % and % copper. A high grade ore produces a high yield of metal. A low grade order produces a low yield of metal.
Copper sulphate is used in fungicides, insecticides, growth stimulation in agriculture, soil sterilization, disinfection, preservatives, antiseptics, pharmaceuticals, disease prevention, mold protection, gas purification and coloring. It is commonly used in textiles, public health and medicine, agriculture, chemistry and building.
of copper, medicine, wood and pulp preservative, engraving and lithography, ore, steel and rubber processing, asphalt treatment. Copper II Sulphate Page 2 of 6 Providing an extensive range of Winery, Viticulture and Laboratory Equipment ... copper sulphate did not cause necrosis but did decrease the weight of testis in mice
copper extraction by leaching by ferrous sulfate The conversion If the ore is primarily sulfide copper minerals (such as chalcopyrite), the ore is . for simultaneous leaching with sulfuric acid to produce a copper sulfate solution. . In a parallel reaction the iron sulfide is converted to slag:. Get Price
Copper Sulphate Crystallization and MVR Copper sulphate solution is a product through copper ore leaching and extraction or copper electrolyte purification. The copper sulphate solution can be further treated to copper anode by electrowinning or to copper sulphate crystal.
Make Copper Sulfate. When you run electricity through copper electrodes which are separated from each other in a dilute sulfuric acid bath the negative electrode will evolve bubbles of hydrogen gas while the positive electrode will be dissolved into the sulfuric acid and oxidized by the current.
Copper on treatment with concentrated sulfuric acid produces copper sulphate. CU + 2H2SO4 → CUSO4 + 2H2O + SO2. Copper sulphate can also be synthesized through slow leaching of lowgrade copper ore in air. Bacteria may be used as a catalyst to hasten this process. Applications Copper sulfate is .
Copper sulphate solution is a product through copper ore leaching and extraction or copper electrolyte purification. The copper sulphate solution can be further treated to copper anode by electrowinning or to copper sulphate crystal.
Copper occurs both in combined state and free state and also in many ores. The important ores of copper are copper pyrites ((CuFeS_2)), cuprite and copper glance. The copper ores are mostly found in the north of India. The extraction of copper also involves many steps.
